Masala French Toast | Under 15 mins breakfast

Masala French toast is the perfect breakfast for busy weekday mornings! Under 15 minutes, high in protein and so delicious. Favourite breakfast EVER!

I love eggs! They are my comfort breakfast and then I love bread! I And breakfasts that involve both of them make it to my top list by default. I made this Masala French Toast a few months ago and since then it has fast climbed up to be a family favourite.

Masala French Toast

The other thing French Toast always reminds me of is Kangana and the movie Queen. Do you remember that scene? Where she goes “Yeh French toast sirf India main milta hai”. I remember the whole movie hall laughing and nodding to the statement. After all the sweet egg coated bread doesn’t stand a chance against our spicy Masala French Toast.

I frankly don’t even remember where did I eat French toast first, perhaps it has been a part of my life right from childhood. I make many versions of this, plain bread dipped in eggs beaten with salt, chilli, jeera powder. Sometimes I add sauteed onions in the egg batter, bacon adds an amazing smokiness to it as well. And on other times when I am feeling slightly indulgent, I make stuffed versions – pesto and cheese sandwiched between two slices of egg dipped in beaten egg.

Easy Spicy French Toast

The Indian version of that where I stuff two pieces of bread with a masala of onion, tomatoes, chillies and coat it with egg to pan fry. Add cheese to it if you want, spread a layer of green chutney too if you want and Masala French toast is ready. It is a recipe that you can easily adapt to your taste and likes. What is not to love I ask?

I am told that this version is also known as Mumbai French Toast though I am sure the love for this dish is spread India wide and not limited to Mumbai.
