When our favorite Monkey learnt new tricks : Monkey Bar’s new menu

An interesting new menu at Monkey Bar, Wood Street, Bangalore.

It is always delightful when your favorite place in town (Monkey Bar) decides to stir things up by introducing a new menu. So sometime ago, I went there to sample whats new. The menu brief had things like “Reddy Chicken”, “Chicken Katsu Burger” along side some very exciting drinks and I was looking forward to the afternoon at Wood Street (I am partial to that one and that is one that is running the new menu too) sampling the new stuff. Both N and I, came back home very happy and errr very drunk.

Here is a picture essay about that day. I say picture essay I know, but I always end up long drawn captions. So lets see what comes out of this one.

 

Monkey Bar

 

So this is what is new born 🙂

 

 

What we started with. Monkey-politan (on the left) and Kiss-Ky Whiskey (on the right). Monkey-politan is a Monkey’s take on the Cosmo cocktail – Absolut Citron, lemongrass, triple sec, cranberry juice and a garnish of orange peel. A decent drink but too mild for my taste. Kiss-ky Whisky is a blend of Irish whisky, orange, triple sec and ginger. The in -house whiskey drinker aka the man loved it.

 

 

Reddy Chicken – I was looking forward to this and wasn’t disappointed. It’s a very refined and balanced version of Andhra pepper chicken. Perfect is the word that comes to mind.

 

 

Crab Rangoon, now I have tasted this before (its available in Indira nagar) but the man wanted to taste them, so we ordered. Works for me, worked for him.

 

 

Since it was time to move to the next round of drinks, we ordered -Mandarin Blast (on the left) and Monkey Cup (on the right). Now I am sucker for fancy drinks with upturned bottles and the likes. They might be a pain to drink from but what is a good drinking session if you don’t do some silliness, I say.

So I loved Monkey Cup, a large cup filled with white rum, cranberry, pineapple, orange, cucumber, cinnamon and Amaretto. Into this is placed an upturned pint. The beer slowly flows into the glass as you keep drinking (or dropping) and the taste of the drink keeps changing along. Good fun. The mandarin blast with Absolut, Mandarin, grenadine topped with ginger ale was a great drink too.

 

 

KUNG FU Rolls – spring rolls stuffed with spiced noodles, tofu, bean sprouts, scallions, peppers and black beans sauce. I think the only dish that didn’t work for me that day. Too greasy, too unrefined.

 

 

A shot in between drinks always works well 😉 This one is called TriShot and has pomegranate, amarula and Absinthe. The shot in then flamed. Fun and potent this one.

 

 

And just so that you don’t think we only drank, Here is the Steak N Cheese version of Monkey. This is what N ate and he seemed to love it so much that he was refusing to share it with me.

 

 

Chicken Katusa Burger. Pretty good for a chicken burger. Herb chicken breast, sriracha cabbage, green curry mayo, sprouts, scallions and lettuce. Yummm and a special mention to that mayo.

 

 

Mango Mai Tai – a blend of rum, mango, coconut and pineapple. Again the only drink that didn’t work for me. Too sweet for my taste.

 

 

And now to the dessert which for me is the only course at Monkey which leaves me wanting a bit more but this might be the change. The carrot cake topped with gajar ka halwa walla frosting was a winner through and through.
