Til or sesame seeds meet the comfort food Khichdi to make the best khicdhi I have ever had. Here is the recipe for gluten free, ready in 20 mins Til Khichadi !
I first had this Til Khichadi at JW Marriott. At one of the dinners when the atmosphere was relax and chatty, a bite of that and we were all lost to the khicdhi. Khichdi has always been my comfort food. I crave for a bowl when I am down, or in a hurry or simply seeking some comfort.
I love most versions of Khicdhi, whether it is the methi khichdi or the millet one. The bengali style or the hyderabadi masala one. So I expected to like this one too, but what I didn’t know was that I will fall in love with it. Chef’s at JW told me this was made with the brown sesame seeds that I had seen in Garhwal for the first time.
The beautifully nutty flavour of these seeds combined with my comfort food had me dreaming about this khicdhi long after I was back from Garhwal. I wondered if it would work with roasted white sesame seeds or a mix of black and white ones. (Note – it does BTW, an equal mix of roasted white sesame and black sesame seeds). And then I found the brown ones at a most unexpected store – Namdharis. I knew khichdi has to be made now.
The richness and the intense flavour of the sesame seeds works so well with the khichdi. I served it with Jhakiya Aloo but it will work fantastically well with curd and some jeera aloo as well.
So here is the recipe, Do try and when you do share a picture with me. Tag #sinamon on twitter, instagram or Facebook. I would love to hear from you, the good things and if you want any clarifications about the recipe. Or if you have any interesting khichdi recipes, do share with me. I am becoming a collector or khicdhi recipes off late as funny as it sounds.
