A delightful Aquafest 2013 at Karavalli! Beautiful food and wonderful time spent there!
I was recently invited to the annual sea food festival of Karavalli. Brilliant food, great conversations and a very humble chef. Had a great time and here is a pictorial review for you.
Jasmine water to clean your hands before you start!
Chutneys and pickles and I love those black jars!
Jaggery to cleanse and freshen your palette. This was a first for me.
Lemon and chillies in brine, interesting pickle choice in Kerala place.
Pickles and chutneys in anticipation of more.
Caranguejos Pimento Fritto : Stir fried mud crab with pepper, chilli and butter. Outstanding this was!
Look at the empty shell checking you out 🙂
Kuttanadan Karuvapila Konju : Tiger Prawn pan fried with onion and tomato with some fresh curry leaves. Yumminess definitely!
Tissryo Sukke : Clams cooked with fresh coconut and Goan spices!
Kane Jeera Meera : Kane is one my favorite coastal fish and this was such beautifully spiced!
Delicately balanced Tomato Rasam. With my cold that evening, this was much needed!
Fish Albardado – if I have to pick my least favorite dish of the day but that only speaks volume of how good the other stuff was because if I would have got this anywhere else I would have been a happy person.
Octopus Uppumunchi – Kundapur popular octopus stir fry with grounded chilly and salt.
This was the first time I was having Octopus in Indian masala and it was fabulous, brilliantly cooked as well.
Podimeen Varathathu – Baby Anchovy marinated with Kerala masala and crisp fried. Loved it.
PS: photo credit for this pic to swaps!
Syrian Meen Road – King Fish marinated with Syrian speciality masala and grilled.
Meen Menthe Kashpu – Good old fish curry from Mangalore and frankly, one of the best I have eaten.
Vypeen Chemmin Piralan – Tiger Prawns in a hotly spiced marinade, cooked in the shell. A specialty of the Fisher’s island of Vypeen Kerala.
Ramasseri Idly with fish curry. Delightful it was. I could have had many more, if I was already not so stuffed.
Shevaiani Refogado – String hoppers cooked with mixed meat and seafood. A little like sevain biryani and I loved it.
And the desserts – Elaneer Payasam, banana and caramel ice cream, Bebinca and dodhol.
That banana ice cream was to die for. We had a second helping and demanded tubs for next time!
Tamarind icecream – yumm, loved the tang!
Something that the chef surprised us with, since when he spoke about it, we were blown away. Its a typical travel meal of that area. Ghee rice wrapped with chicken curry in a banana leaf. When eaten after a few hours, it is delightful with the aromas and flavours.
