Cholia & Anar Salad | Fresh Garbanzo beans Salad

Cholia Anar Salad or Fresh Garbanzo beans Salad with pomegranate seeds, topped with anardana dressing is the perfect way to eat the end of winter crop Cholia

I love Cholia and a few weeks ago, I had a delicious Cholia Anar Salad at Jamun in Delhi. This recipe is really my take on the same. The flavors are not an exact replica but I took inspiration from that combination for this particular Cholia Anar Salad. And everyone in my house loved the salad, including the not so pint-size anymore child.

Cholia Anar Salad

Adding anar or pomegranate seeds to the salad brings out an interesting texture twist as well as mild sweetness to it. The cherry tomatoes are a sudden surprise while you are chewing on the cholia seeds. And the lettuce adds that freshness that for me is essential in a salad.

I used a dressing which was essentially a vinaigrette with some Indian spices added to it. Since the salad ingredients kind of reminded me of channa chaat, I decided to play with the same. I have used one of my favorite Punjabi spices – anardana or dry pomegranate seeds. I love the crunch and tang that they bring to the recipe. Some chilli powder, jeera and ofcourse chaat masala complete the equation.

I also made a slight variation to this the next day since I had some boiled cholia in the refrigerator. I added a spoon or so of Mango-Jalapeno sauce from Sprig to the salad as well. The husband loved that variation too. So if you want to try it out, just reduce the chaat masala a bit and add a tablespoon of the sauce. So what are you waiting for? Make it before the cholia goes away!
