BaoWow Festival at The Fatty Bao is awesome!
The Fatty Bao is currently having a Bao festival called the BaoWow Festival with 14 different flavours of Bao on offer and each one more delicious than the other. On till the 31st December, it’s a festival that must not be missed.
The Fatty Bao is one of my most favorite places in Bangalore to eat but then it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. I love Asian Food and I love the vibe at Manu Chandra’s restaurants. Combine them both and you have a winner, at least, for me!

Yesterday afternoon, I tried some of the stuff and I think this is perfect for the holiday season coming up and relaxed lunches, varieties of soft fluffy baos along with some of the Fatty signature drinks (Wasabi drop and Hello Motto are my top recommendations by the way) make for an ideal lunch out with friends or family.
Among my top recommendations on the flavours to try are Cheesy kimchi potato bao (a note here is that they have good options for vegetarians. Five flavours one of which is a mock meat), Chilli crab & prawn Bao, Wasabi fish bao and the roast duck Bao. The pulled purk bao was lovely as well.
Here are a few of the pictures
Cheesy Kimchi Potato bao : spicy and delightful
Fried eggplant Bao : if you are an eggplant lover you will like this one, perfectly cooked and spiced eggplant
Wasabi Fish : Probably my personal favorite of the day, this or the crab and prawn one
Roast Duck : with hoisin sauce, cucumber and scallion this was delicious.
Crab and Prawn Bao : Very Asian crab cake like feeling this will be a repeat order the next time I go, I do hope they bring this one the regular menu as well.
Mushroom & Chickpea : Honestly, when I ordered this I didn’t imagine a patty kind of thing as filling. Worked as a bao a little like falafel but I am wondering if the sauteed mushrooms would have worked better.
We also couldn’t resist trying some of the new additions on the Fatty menu, this pickled plum Nigiri is seriously good and just look at those colors, it’s like Xmas on a plate!
Now the dish that blew my mind that day was this Steamed Edamame, with Garlic, lemon and sea salt simple flavours, steamed beans but oh gosh sublime. When you go to Fatty DON’T forget to order this one!
I have always said Asian desserts are no good, that it is better to walk out of an asian restaurant and grab an ice cream at the nearest vendor but I think this Halo Halo is here to change that. Just look at the plate and keep looking for the next two minutes cause it demands that kind of an attention (we did that promise) and then if you like sweets, heck if you don’t hate sweets, you will keep eating this till you wipe off the plate clean and may be order another one (yes we did).
Halo Halo is essentially a deconstructed mix of jello, caramelised banana, purple yam ice-cream (yes you read it correctly), raspberry sorbet, vanilla flan and shaved ice. Next time I will think of this one before I judge an Asian dessert by the way inspired by flavours from Philippines.
The BaoWow festival is on till the 31st December and I am going again with N & O this time. Go book your table!
