Teamonk Global : Handpicked Speciality Teas

Teamonk Global’s handpicked speciality teas – A review of Teamonk’s amazing tea varieties!

I am an ardent tea lover and when I was invited by Teamonk Global for a tea tasting sessions, I had to say yes.

Teamonk Global

“There are those who love to get dirty and fix things. They drink coffee at dawn, beer after work. And those who stay clean, just appreciate things. At breakfast they have milk and juice at night. There are those who do both, they drink tea.” ― Gary Snyder

As far as, I am concerned there is always tea time somewhere in the world and hence the question would you like some tea has only one answer – yes.

I was happy to make the trek from Whitefield to Areke after this invitation from Teamonk Global for a tea tasting session in their office. And if you know Bangalore you know that it is a HUGE deal to travel so much.

The beautiful mint tea, green tea leaves with dried spearmint

Teamonk Global is the brainchild of tea expert Ashok Mittal, who wanted to do something with handcrafted speciality teas and bring to foreground that there are teas beyond our chai in India. Teamonk believes in quality foremost and takes utmost care in delivering the best teas to you. Their mantra is simple pure natural organic teas. All teas contain fresh real ingredients, like the mint tea (which I LOVED) has green tea leaves and dried spearmint leaves sourced directly from a farm.

Black tea : Strong and clean flavours

Teamonk’s teas come in loose leaf variety and tea bags. The tea bags are the pyramid variety as that helps deliver the best flavour without over brewing it. I asked Mr. Mittal on what makes tea “speciality tea” as opposed to the normal teas you get in the market. He mentioned that “Specialised teas are planted in dedicated areas which have been researched about and handpicked with care. The processing also differs in terms of machinery and process.  The idea is to bring out the tea’s character. Since the processing and picking has to be careful and manual, it is the reason why the tea is more expensive as well. ”

Unfluring of tea leaves. Also known as the tea dance. We did it with white tea since it most visible in that

Mr. Ashok Mittal took us through how should one brew and taste a tea. According to him,

For brewing – 2 gms / 150 ml water is the perfect ratio for tea. He also believes it’s important not to over brew the teas as that leaves a bitter aftertaste. Green tea for 2 mins, black and oolong for 3 mins. He also said that tea is a very delicate beverage and absorbs the mood & energy of person and come to think of I agree, such a beautiful drink it is.

This interesting and informative tea tasting session was followed by a tea party. There were sandwiches and muffins and cheese sticks and lots more tea. I missed my scones though, I cannot think of a tea party without them but this was fun as well.

I came back home in a happy tea place along with a few tea samples that I have finished over the week and I have to say the teas are really lovely. I think I am gonna some more for myself. The tea’s are available at TeaMonk Global website and BigBasket.

Ending with my favorite tea quote, simple yet profound and true.

“Where there’s tea there’s hope.”
– Arthur Wing Pinero

Liked the beginning and the last quote. I am going to use this now. Tea tourism is now big in East and NE India . You must try it out sometime
