Strawberry, Lettuce & Feta Cheese Salad

This Strawberry Lettuce Feta Cheese Salad is perfect for Valentines or anytime you want to have a romantic sit down meal.

Love is in the air and there is no other food that feels more perfect that strawberry to celebrate love. Think of that scene from Pretty Woman (which BTW is my top most romantic movie ever). Champagne and Strawberries is what makes the meeting and the setting perfect. Like I mentioned last, they even look like hearts. What’s not to love?

Strawberry & Feta Salad

For me, if I am cooking valentine meal strawberries have to be a part of that meal. Helps that Indian strawberry season kind of collides with the romantic festival of Valentines. I know Valentines Day gets a lot of flak in the media these days and honestly rightly so. The overdose of hearts, the red and pink everywhere does get to one. But having said that it is a day of celebration. A day where we take time from our usual routine madness and pause to celebrate love. Pause to acknowledge the feelings we have for our partner and other people close to us. And considering how expressing our feeling doesn’t come naturally to us at all, I really don’t think it is a bad idea.

Valentine Special Salad

Yes the commercialisation could reduce, the in your face ads and offers and the over cheesy greetings could be done away with. But it will really be a pity if while doing this; we stop celebrating this day of love. So do something special this day, go for that walk, sing a song, dance together, buy flowers, just chat or cook a meal. And if you cook a meal, make this salad to be a part of it.

With a glass of wine, it is the perfect thing for that romantic dinner, the colours, the flavours are just perfect for Valentines (and any other day for that matter). The salad has fresh greens (use whatever you have at hand, a combination of lettuce, spinach, rocket works very well. I have at some point used one or all of them), figs, strawberries, pistachios and feta cheese. There have been times, I have added grilled chicken or tofu or boiled eggs to this and it works very well with that too. But personally for me the salad shines in it’s own. With the strawberry vinaigrette dressing, the fruits, the feta cheese and the crunch of lettuce and pistachio. It is a match made in heaven just like the person you love
