Chura Dahi : Flattened Rice & Yoghurt Parfait

Chura Dahi or Dahi Chura is a delightful no-cook summer breakfast. Soaked flattened rice, yoghurt and topped with fruits it is just what summer mornings need!

Dahi Chura or Chura Dahi is probably our own Indian version of soaked breakfast that is existed forever. It is a simple, comforting, no-cook dish just what the summer breakfasts need.

A traditional Bihari dish, also popular in areas UP it’s a beautiful dish. It is a dish that I discovered late in life but have fallen in love with it. We make it very often in our house during the summer. All it takes is 15 minutes to put it together and is super healthy as well. I can put it in a mason jar and have it on the go. Just perfect for crazy work mornings.

A version of this is also popular in Bengal and Orrisa and Maharashtra does a fabulous savoury version too.

If you make this,  share a picture with me on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook? I would love to hear what you have to say about it.

Course Breakfast, brunch
Cuisine global vegetarian, Indian

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chura thin poha
  • 1 cup yoghurt
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp coconut treacle (or use honey)
  • 1/4 cup fruits

Instructions

  • Wash the poha thoroughly in running water and then soak in 2 tbsp of milk for 15 minutes.
  • Add whisked curd and treacle to the soaked poha. You can reduce or increase the curd depending on the texture and thickness you like.
  • Top with fruits and serve chilled.

Notes

In case you want to make a savoury version of the same, skip the treacle add chopped cucumber, grated carrots, chopped green chillies and salt. I really do like the savoury version as well.

Sounds interesting – is the milk essential? I hate milk and not sure if I will be able to have it with milk

Well it is only two spoons of milk but if you absolutely don’t want it, you can soak it in water
