Happy Dushhera: A time for traditional Chana Dal Rice
This simple Chana Dal Rice is one of the dishes my mother used to make for Dushhera when we were kids! Simple spices and minimalist ingredients make this rice a super yummy tradition to follow!
- 1 cups basmati rice (washed and soaked for 30 min)
- 1/2 cup channa dal (washed and soaked for 2 hours )
- 3 onions medium sliced
- 2 tomatoes medium chopped
- 3 chillies dry red
- 2 green chillies
- 1/2 tsp masala biryani pulao
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 cups water
- to taste salt
Heat oil in cooker.
Add cumin seeds and wait till they turn brown.
Add dry red chillies, green chillies and fry for 1 min.
Add onions and roast till they turn golden brown.
Add tomatoes fry for another 3 minutes.
Add salt and biryani pulao masala and the water.
Add dal, rice and the lemon juice.
Close the cooker and let the pressure build... switch off on one whistle.
Open after some time and enjoy :)
Happy Vijay Dashmi once again!
