Twenty 21 – Restaurant Review

Twenty 21 at Whitefield Bangalore is a delightful place to dine in!

Its not often that I make a trip to Whitefield (and come to think of it I almost used to live there before). Living in kormangala has spoiled me no ends. Any distance more than 10 kms feels like a city away really and Whitefield even more so. So when a friend was calling me to Twenty 21, I kept on pushing it in my mind thinking is there anyway I can avoid it 😉 But finally, I gave in after sometime and I am glad I did.

Twenty 21 is located in the mall right outside ITPL and the first thing that stuck me when I reached that place was how much has ITPL changed. There was a time I used to work there and I remember struggling to find options even for team lunches/dinner. All that used to be around was spice something and an Andhra thali place. Yes Yes, I am a sample from that long ago 😉 Anyway, as usual, I digress, let me come back to Twenty 21.

The aesthetics and the interiors of the place are good, basic and minimalist.  Very modern and the kind which the hubby and I really like. So the place made us comfortable at once. There is also an outside sitting area which in this heat was a major no no, for me even in the night, but considering this is Bangalore it would be a delightful place to sit a month later. I can almost bet my cards that it would be the most asked for tables in the restaurant when the weather gods become kind again.

We started the meal with some refreshing watermelon and feta salad with basil. In the heat it was truly a blessing. The flavors were well balanced which was the most important point for me in this standard salad.

Twenty 21

The next we had was the Roasted Pumpkin and rosemary with creme Fraiche soup and though it was a little bland for my taste, the child gobbled it up with much love.

The next up in the tasting menu was the grilled chicken on skewers which is a part of non veg med platter in the menu. The chicken was fantastic though it was served to us with tomato dip I think it would have been fantastic with a cucumber mint dip in the menu.

And to do some justice to the vegetarian part of the menu (which does seem to have a fair amount of options in my opinion) we tried the vegetarian med platter which had the pita bread along with Hummus, Babaganoush, Tomato & Onion Relish and  Guacamole. I personally loved the babaganoush full of flavour yet not overpowering the basic brinjal.

For the mains, we had an outstanding steamed basa in herbs and coconut based sauce and that fish was clearly the dish of the day for me. The sauce had outstanding flavors. Quite frankly,  I wouldn’t have minded a second helping of the same but knew that there might be more stuff coming in and hence let go.

I am not much of a mutton person, but the next dish that came of the table turned out to be hubby’s favorite – Grilled Lamb Chops with Vegetarian Ratatouille. Again the winner here was flavours.  The gnocchi in the dish was good too though I am usually too harsh on gnocchi and thought it could have been a little lighter.

We also ordered a pasta for the child who was with us. Since I have a masterpiece child who doesn’t like the white sauce and finds the arabiatta too spicy, I requested the staff to give me a pasta which has both the sauces mixed (yes yes don’t stare at me now :P). Given the fact that the sauce was hurriedly altered and wasn’t the standard menu it was quite decent.

And now to my most loved part of the menu – The dessert. The dessert was Orange Parfait with tropical fruit cocktail, the parfait was lovely though I would have enjoyed a little more fruits along with it but yes it did pass the bakers test 😉

All in all, after the meal, I didn’t regret the trek to Whitefield and that is saying a lot :D.

Meal for two – Rs 1500/-

Parking – Mall has ample parking space.

Rest Rooms – Clean and sparkling.

Child Friendly – Apart from the fact that the restaurant has a little less lighting than I would want to take a child to I think its fairly child friendly.
