Of Surfing Vacation at Mahabalipuram and turning 41

Keen to try your hand at surfing in India but wondering where to go? Check this post to know all about the Surfing Vacation at Mahabalipuram we took for my birthday this year.

A Surfing Vacation has been on our mind for a couple of years. A cousin who stays on ECR (East Coast Road) has been talking about how good is surfing in Mahabalipuram and how we must make a visit. But for some reason or the other, we just kept pushing it. This August when a friend mentioned how fantastic the surf is right now we decided to change that.

We were invited by Soukya Homestays, independent serviced villas close to Mahabalipuram sometime in August. The stars aligned and I ended up spending my 41st birthday with sun, sand and the sea. And of yes another S this time, the Surfboard.

Before, I take you through the pictures and words, look at this short video I put together for the holiday. So much fun.

Soukya Homestay is a luxury villa property and The Villas are very spacious with two floors, a garden and a terrace to enjoy. We had a pool facing villa and enjoyed the view, chats late into the night with friends. I love the idea of staying in villas when vacationing in large groups since it allows us to be together and hang out in private spaces than either be huddled up in a room or be a part of the larger hotel restaurant. Here are some of the pictures of the villa and the complex.

As you probably saw in the video above the child took to Surfing, like a fish to water. He had a blast and we are all planning to go back soon enough. And apart from the two kids in the group none of us could even stand up, yes you are allowed to laugh at this point. We surfed at Mahabs beach with Mumu of the Mumu Surf Point and I strongly recomend them.

Soukya folks very sweetly surprised me with a cake in the morning just before we were leaving. A delicious apple cake with minimal icing just as I love it.

All in all a fabulous birthday break and thank you Team Soukya for taking care of us

If you are looking at vacationing in Mahabs or even visiting Chennai, look no further. Especially if you are in a group. At 15K/night/villa it might be slightly expensive but with three families fitting in, it makes it worth it I feel.

Happy 41. Wishing you lifetime happiness. Have always cribbed about the fact that there are so many less weekend gateaways from Kolkata and your post just reinforces that. Wonderful property
