Cafe of Joy is a beautiful cafe which reminds me of Europe! Driving down the Whitefield main road (also known as Varthur road I think, the one that leads to Forum Value Mall from Marathalli) one can almost miss "Cafe of Joy". With a small board, it is overshadowed by the big and loud brother "Bhagini" next door. But once you spot it, that is the moment joy begins. Yes yes, I know it sounds cheesy but heck today is Valentine's Day, I am not doing a post full of hearts. I bet I can at least be … [Read more...]

Kitchen Basics : Marinara Sauce: Pasta/Pizza Sauce
Make a batch of this delicious marinara sauce (pasta/pizza) and store in the fridge or freezer! Use as a pizza sauce, pasta sauce or just as a dip! Delicious! It is that time of the year again, when tomatoes are dirt cheap. My street vendor was selling them for Rs3/kg this morning. Yes that cheap. And this is also the time I stock up on the tomato goodness for a while - tomato pickle, sun-dried tomatoes, pasta sauce, marinara sauce and this year, I am even thinking of making a tomato … [Read more...]
Remembering My Granny and Channa Dal Stuffed Karelas
While Karelas are not everyone's favorite vegetables, I have some amazing memories of my granny associated with these channa dal stuffed karelas. The channa dal stuffed karelas are a labour of love, but trust me, this is one recipe which will make even a I-do-not-like-Karela person into a Oh-but-this-is-a-great-way-to-eat-them person :) I have said it over here many times before that food is 50% nostalgia and everything else comes in the rest of the 50% and a huge part of that … [Read more...]
Quick cooking : Dry Dal and Some Childhood Memories
This simple dry dal made from urad dal and some simple spices is one of my strongest childhood memories! The dry dal with some hot rotis off the tawa was something my sister was very fond of, and we would end up eating it oh-so-often at home! There are some dishes that define your childhood, that take you back to your childhood and then make you smile mostly. But some make you cringe, not because they don't taste good, but because you have eaten them so much while growing up … [Read more...]

A delicious way to eat the seasonal Moongra, also known as radish pods. This Moongra raita is so yummy that you will polish it off in no time :) I try and use as much seasonal produce (see, that is why this Moongra raita!) as I can in my everyday cooking. It is not a surprise to anyone that using seasonal produce is good for health. But more often than not, living in Bangalore, I don't find the stuff I have grown up with. The stuff that I enjoyed eating which were seasonal. I … [Read more...]
Leaping Windows Cafe : Where Comics, fun decor & food meet
Leaping Windows Cafe: A delightful place for food, comics and decor :) I have been hearing about Leaping Windows Cafe from sometime now. There are comics, there are fun cushions and there is good food. What's not to love when you are told that a place has all of those. Finally when I had to meet a friend for lunch and discuss something about "work", I decided that Leaping Windows Cafe might be a good bet. Leaping Windows Cafe is a warm, gorgeous place with mismatched furniture, cushions, … [Read more...]
Nimona : Banarsi Style Mashed Green Peas Curry
Nimona is a Banarsi style of making green peas curry. Simple and elegant, this one is a star of the table! Last week, I was in one of my I am bored of everything moods. I get these attacks once in a while where the usual chicken, fish, dal and sabjis just don't cut the mark for me. I want something different. Something that is not made in my kitchen regularly and considering it is winter (relatively speaking, anyway) and there are fresh green peas available. I decided to make … [Read more...]
Om Made Cafe, Kormangala
Om Made Cafe, Kormangala is a lovely place with some interesting food options! Imagine walking into something as gorgeous as above in the middle of mad Kormangala, spacious well lit, in fact open part open air, pretty tastefully done. On a chilly Bangalore evening, it's a delight as it is on a winter sunny afternoon. Another thing that holds in favour of Om Cafe is that they have wine and needless to stay we started with some. Good rosette, Zinfandel Rose those who … [Read more...]
