Planning a trip to Coorg and wondering where to stay? Your search ends at Old Kent Estate. I promise it stands apart among most resorts in Coorg when it comes to beauty, taste, comfort and responsible luxury.
The past few months have been very very stressful with my dad passing away and work becoming crazy. I had been craving for a break from the routine. From my house and everything else for a while and that is when we decided to take a holiday at Old Kent Estate, a gorgeous bungalow from the 1800’s recently converted into a resort.
Old Kent Estate is a Heritage British Raj property which is now a family run business. The family who owns the estate are from Tamil Nadu and their great grandfather bought it directly from the Wright Family in the 60’s. According to what I read there, It was started in 1865 by Colonel Wright, so it’s passed from one family to another.
The first impression you make of the place is that, how tastefully the property has been done and how there is so much warmth in the way staff speaks to you. I think it comes from the fact that it is a family run business and in a way extends the love and warmth of Coorg homestays to a luxury segment now. A gap that I personally always thought was missing.
Old Kent also has a little something for everyone who is visiting, ample space for kids to run around if they want. Long endless walks in the estate which has been beautifully marked into – Blue, Yellow and Red depending on the length. Pick what you want or just wander away where your heart desires. It has a very stocked library if chilling out with coffee and book is your idea of vacation. Mine is, Mine is !
The food is pretty good as well though I wish they served a little more local specialities but I think they are trying to be partly loyal to their British heritage and I did like some of the food that they served a lot (check pictures down).
We had three days of bliss there, three days of being pampered and every need (and more) being take care of!

This is where I sat for most of the time, with a book in my hand and some coffee to sip. Whats not to love

Who wouldn’t want to spend the day here. A bottle of wine, a nice crisp salad. Reminds me so much of the British Era !

Did I say something about Books already !

The reception area.

Such a beautiful spacious room. Who would want to step out if one can chill like that

The cutest corner of the room ! Those are Old Kent library books that one can read and take along if not finished. Just send it back later if you can or leave any of your book there !

See the book policy! How can one not love the place after this <3

And the BATHROOM at Old Kent. Forgive me for screaming but OMG just how gorgeous is that.

Chicken Salad we had for one of the lunches. Such clean flavours

The child playing around with the telescope. He had a blast there. Riding his cycle (we took our own cycles), walking around and generally exploring the place. When I asked him if he would go back just now, he said in a jiffy – WHEN

Just harvested coffee cherries

Coffee workers trying to sort the day’s harvest. We did a short walk of the coffee sorting, pulping and dry process. Pretty fascinating

Coffee cherries, right after the pulping.

The outstanding Old Kent Coffee we had after a session on coffee roasting & brewing

Steamed Broccoli & Cuali in Marinara Sauce. This was a part of our first meal there & I think my favourite thing I ate

Brilliant bhetki fry !

The pretty cycle in the lawn. The property is beautifully done up to reflect it’s British heritage

Yet another pretty cycle !

The sun clock from the olden times. The child was very impressed, we did one science lesson on the sly here 🙂

A picture from the outside dinner at the Ponnappa’s. The neighbours of Old Kent with a big heart !
