Junk Food Made Healthy – Healthy Pizza

A healthy pizza base made from whole wheat flour, soya flour, oats and powdered channa dal! Now it really can’t get healthier, right?

Everyone at our house love pizza and I usually buy a pizza base from market and make the pizza at home. Some time back, when I started having a regular supply of good yeast I started making the regular maida base at home too. However, I still wasnโ€™t too happy with the fact that it was all maida. So some days back when I was casually browsing the TV, I saw a multigrain healthy pizza recipe on Active Cooking on Tata Sky.

I loved the recipe and I thought I should give it a try!

healthy pizza

I am so glad I tried this version of the pizza base, because it has the goodness of oats and soya flour and there is no maida involved in it at all. Now, isn’t that an amazing way to enjoy your junk food by making it healthy?

You can also choose to blind bake the base before you put the veggies for about 7 minutes or so. I think, next time, I make this pizza. I will do that so that the cheese doesnโ€™t get overdone.

If there is one thing I am always looking out for when I am cooking, it is how to make my food healthy. We already eat so much processed food in one way or the other. It always makes me happy when I can make those dishes at home, which are really unhealthy when you eat them outside. This pizza is really so simple to put together. Just make the base and then add some homemade marinara pizza sauce to it, and then top it with vegetables of your choice, and of course, some cheese, because what is a pizza, without cheese ๐Ÿ™‚

Course Main Dish
Cuisine Italian
Servings
Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1.5 tbsps channa roasted powder
  • 1.5 tbsps soya
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 2 tsps or 1 tsps yeast or dry yeast fresh or dry
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • to taste salt ( I used about 1.5 tsp)
  • 2 tsps olive oil
  • pizza sauce
  • vegetables for toppings
Instructions
  1. Mix yeast with lukewarm water and sugar. Keep aside for about 20 minutes for fermenting (I used fresh yeast and it took only about 10 minutes)
  2. In a bowl, mix all flours, salt and oats. Add the yeast mixture to the above and start the very healing kneading process. When I knead a bread I am actually transported to a different world. I forget all about my tensions and knead knead and knead for about 15 minutes, till you have a nice smooth dough.
  3. Finish the dough by adding the olive oil to it and kneading till it is just about mixed.
  4. Cover and keep aside the dough for about an hour (please note it will not double in size but still rise a little). Below is my dough. after about an hour.
  5. Divide the mixture into 5 equal parts and roll it into a round of about 1/2 inch of thickness or more if you can the pan like crust.
  6. Add the pizza sauce, put some veggies or non veg of choice on top.
  7. What is pizza without cheese so add as much cheese as you like to your pizza.
  8. And bake in a preheated oven at about 180C for about 15 minutes or till done

Wow..healthy Pizza…who would have thought so.
We as family are in love with pizzas ever since out Italy trip…no wonder we went again on New Years.

Absolutely fantastic to see such healthy version.
But one stopper “for me” here… i hate kneading… ๐Ÿ™
And secondly – i have never used yeast till now.
Let me see when i get to do these two.
