Introducing Yawo – Sri Lanka in audio bytes!

Imagine if you could stand at a place and hear all the stories about it. Everything that people had to say about it and felt about it. This is what Yawo aims to do it. An app for location based story telling !

I love the sound of the word Yawo, which means “Wander” in Huasa. A meaning I like even more, for a person who is a traveler at heart there is no better phrase than – Go Wander. And that is what Yawo wants you to do, go wander and then share your stories with the world. What is so different about it you may ask. The key thing for me is that these stories are share in the native story telling format – audio.

Yawo is essentially an app that enables you to record audio stories geotagged to a location. According to their website

Yawo is an app that lets you record stories on a map. It also lets you listen to fascinating stories from across the globe.

All you need to do is record your story for a geographical landmark and put it on the map. Share it with others for them to listen to it from that location on the map. You can follow other storytellers, and likewise they can follow you. And, you can listen to interesting stories of places around you as you explore using the map in the Yawo app

Yawo is a dear friend’s idea and execution so I might be a bit biased when I say this but I adore the idea. What is not to love about sharing stories, snippets and feelings. What is not to love about talking about the history of a place, sharing the sound of waves or cacophony of noises of a busy street.

I tried the app extensively while on my Sri Lanka trip and honestly speaking I think I liked it a bit more than even instagram, it does take a bit of warming up to. But once you get the hang of it, you are addicted. I was and I recorded so many stories there.

Want to listen? So here is Sri Lanka in audio bytes with Yawo

Ministry of Crabs –

Is it possible to talk about Colombo’s food scene without mentioning Ministry of Crabs. Nada ! So listen to this story to know what I feel about it

Ministry of Crabs

Galle Lighthouse

It was one my favourite places to sit and watch the sea extending to far and beyond. Listen to the story of this non operational lighthouse of Galle

Sound of Waves –

When a story is more about emotions than it is about a place but still very relevant to location. Wondering what the hell I am talking about. Listen to this story to know more.

Stick no Bills

Wondering what this is all about? My story will tell you what

Conquering fear at Jetwings

This probably would be my favourite story from the trip, also may be because it is personal. Have a listen?

And these aren’t the only ones, like I said I recorded many stories. So download the app and have a suno to all my stories. Record some of your own, share with your friends and then tell me what do you think of the app. Me and my friend would be very happy to have feedback and thoughts around it !

And GO YAWO !!!

Disclaimer – This is not a sponsored/collaboration post. However, I am associated with Yawo in the capacity of a consultant driving the food stories and vertical. But as usual the views and thoughts and the stories are all mine !
